When I was scrolling through the different blogs there was one that stood out to me. D the Vegan Feminist mentioned some things that I agree with. I am not vegan or even vegetarian, but I have considered it. She mentions that she has a love for animals, birds and insects and that was what really grabbed my attention. Insects are overlooked by many and thought of as useless and annoying. However, they are a very important part of or environment and do a lot of important thing just as animals and birds. Her passion really shines through in her blog.
My name is Lindsey Paradis and I am currently a junior. I transferred from Rhode Island College after my freshman year. My major is Sociology and I am minoring in Sustainability. My blog could be a model of my work because it will be a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings on different matters. However, I can sometimes struggle with writing so there may be some challenges for me.
An environmental issue in my area is the production of single use plastic. Plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic utensils and the list could keep going. There are a few places in the United States where plastic bags have been banned and I think that is a good step in the right direction. Plastic takes many years to break down and before we have a chance to eliminate any of it more is being produced. It harms wildlife and it is bad for the ecosystem.
Hi Lindsey! The environmental issue of single use plastic is also pretty big in my area of New York as well. Something good that NYS has done about this issue is placing a ban on single-use plastic bags starting on March 1, 2020. The Department of Environmental Conservation has a really great article on this new bag waste reduction law here: https://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/50034.html.
Hopefully more states adopt laws like this because it seems as though it’ll make a pretty large difference.
Hey! After reading your post I went checked out the blog D the Vegan Feminist. I read her bio and a couple articles. Her blog posts seemed informative and covered various topics . For a while I used to cook vegetarian at home but if I was out I’d still eat meat. Now I just get meat, eggs and milk from a local farm down the road and incorporate that into dinners a couple times a week. Research has shown that meat is like the “middle man” for nutrient/protein and that you get more eating directly from the source (which are plants/vegetables)!
